Welcome

At Atlanta CBT, we partner with children (ages 2 years +), teens, and adults to provide private, specialized, and personalized cognitive behavioral therapy. We are experienced licensed psychologists and therapists with warm, collaborative, and guiding styles. We see clients in our Inman Park, Atlanta office and through telehealth. We are able to see clients in 35 states via PsyPact.

We have specialized understanding and skills to help with:

We also have the experience and understanding needed to help clients with other challenges like grief and loss; drinking/drug use; binge eating; chronic pain; managing or adjusting to injury or chronic medical or health issues; relationship difficulties; parenting; racial stress and anti-racism; and career or school concerns. We especially enjoy working with creative types, executives, professionals, and students. All therapists at Atlanta CBT are LGBTQ+ affirming and we strive to provide culturally-affirming care for our clients. In fact, Dr. Christina Goodwin, Ph.D. provides evaluations for adults seeking gender-affirming surgery/procedures.

In addition to therapy offered on an individual basis, we offer parent training for parents wishing to gain skills necessary to guide children with anxiety and or positive discipline. Further, we offer couples and family therapy for the purpose of enhancing individual therapy by involving the couple or family system when useful and desired by clients.

The CBT therapies we offer are referred to as “evidence-based” because researchers have found them to be effective for many people.

The various forms of CBT are usually short term and can often work in 6-25 sessions; some clients come back for “booster sessions” every once in a while after they complete a course of therapy. Some of clients stay in therapy for longer amounts of time, especially if they have a particularly severe and “sticky” symptoms and or if they get relief from their primary concerns but then find other issues they wish to work on.

Researchers continue to refine CBT. Atlanta CBT’s Owner and Director, Dr. Leah Farrell-Carnahan, Ph.D., is a former clinical researcher, as are Dr. Julia Buch Wamstad, Psy.D., Dr. Christina Goodwin, Ph.D., Dr. Nathan Mascaro, Ph.D, ABPP, and Dr. M. Kathleen Holmes, Ph.D. All therapists at Atlanta CBT stay up-to-date on new treatment developments so you can get treatment that works.

While specific CBT techniques and strategies are often necessary components of an effective therapy experience, the relationship between the therapist and client is equally essential. When selecting a therapist, you want both– tools and a good relationship. This is what we seek to provide. We do not apply a one-size-fits-all CBT approach. Rather, we collaborate with clients to determine the most efficient and effective ways to engage them in the process of reflection and change, all the while fostering a sense of emotional safety infused with challenge needed to grow. In other words, we appreciate the creation of a strong therapeutic relationship and work to enable clients to set goals, build insight and mindful awareness, and step into a space of vulnerability where they often delight in the process of testing and stretching their limits, emotionally, cognitively, and behaviorally.
