She is a licensed clinical psychologist with certifications in Behavioral Sleep Medicine from both the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the Board of Behavioral Sleep Medicine.

A leading expert in behavioral sleep health, cognitive behavioral therapy, and stressful life events, Dr. Haynes’ research often involves behavioral randomized controlled trials and integrates frameworks from cognitive behavioral theory, occupational health psychology, and implementation science. Her work is funded by institutions such as the National Institutes of Health (NHLBI, NIMH), the Department of Defense, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Haynes began her career within the VA system, researching treatment responses in veterans with depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She also played a key training role in the VA’s rollout of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) for mental health providers. Since joining the UA Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health in 2015, her research has focused on the intersection of work, sleep, and social rhythms, particularly in public safety workers. Her current work explores how job stress, job loss, and workplace wellness programs impact sleep and health over time.

In addition to research, she provides clinical services to fire service members, precepts student projects, and implements health promotion programs. Her primary therapeutic modalities are cognitive behavioral and third wave cognitive behavioral, tailored to meet the unique needs of public safety workers. Dr. Haynes is committed to improving sleep health and promoting wellness in high-stress occupations.

Dr. Haynes teaches Advanced Research Methods, for doctoral students in Health Promotion Sciences, and Sleep Health Coaching, a practicum course for undergraduates pursuing a BA in public health. She mentors students at all levels in sleep and stress research.
