President's Blog - October 2018
Dear SBSM Members,
The Fall conference was recently held in the beautiful green rolling hills of Birmingham. Attendees heard from expert faculty on a wide range of topics and they were kept engaged with a variety of formats. Interesting patient cases brought out the creative and experienced skills of both the audience and faculty. Expert panelists were also challenged with cases from the audience. In the afternoon, a lively game of Jeopardy provided both education and fun. The day was capped off with a great dinner at a local restaurant, that provided all the attendees with the opportunity to network and unwind. Overall, the meeting was a great success and received great reviews from the attendees, some of whom had to evacuate due to flooding in the East.
Plans are underway for the SBSM's First Annual Scientific meeting September 12 – 15, 2019 at the 4-diamond Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa in Birmingham. This is shaping up to be an excellent program, which will include key note presentations, symposia, workshops, panel discussions and much more networking with your colleagues. Abstracts can now be submitted for this meeting for review by the 1st Annual Scientific Conference planning committee.
The office has received applications from many talented and outstanding trainees interested in working on a SBSM committee, and we are in the process of matching applicant interests with committee needs. We have also reached out to other organizations in an effort to find areas of possible collaboration to meet the educational needs of our members by providing diverse and high quality educational opportunities.
Finally, the first exam window for the DBSM exam has just closed and we look forward to welcoming our first DBSM members.
With warm regards,
Donna Arand PhD
SBSM President
