Dr. Schmittdiel is a clinical psychologist with 30 years of practice experience, with a primary background in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions for anxiety and mood disorders. His primary current areas of interest are in behavioral medicine, including working with sleep disorders, bariatric patients, and with neurology and other medical patients. He became Certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (CBSM) in 2012 and currently works both with sleep disorder referrals from local sleep disorder clinics as well as patients referred by primary care providers. He provides Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy-Insomnia (CBT-I) services, an evidence-based treatment intervention that is now considered first-line treatment for chronic insomnia, and also works with patients struggling with other sleep disorders (e.g. adjusting to CPAP therapy for sleep apnea, coping with narcolepsy). Dr. Schmittdiel is a member of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine, the American Psychological Association, and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
